FAQ

General

How is IncludeApps different from a generic IoT platform like ThingsBoard?

A generic IoT platform expects you to build the dashboards, thresholds and logic from nothing before it is any use. IncludeApps arrives with ready-made vertical modules (agriculture, energy, aquaculture and so on) whose dashboards, thresholds, alarms and action recommendations are already configured for that industry - you connect the device and you are running.

Do I have to run my own server?

No. IncludeApps is a multi-tenant SaaS - subscribe, enable a solution, connect a device. For cases where data may not leave the site there is also an on-premise option; talk to our team.

Do I have to use IncludeBox hardware?

No. Third-party devices (BYOD) can be registered yourself and publish over MQTT or HTTP with a device token - see the API Reference. IncludeBox hardware is plug-and-play, but the platform is open to anything that can send JSON.

Devices & data

How long is my telemetry kept?

It depends on your plan - retention is one of the plan's limits. The Subscription page in the app shows the retention your current plan gives you.

My device is sending data but the dashboard is still empty.

Check these in order:

  1. Device status under Manage Devices - is it recorded as online?
  2. The MQTT topic - it must follow includeapps/{group_id}/{solution_slug}/{device_id}/telemetry. The safest route is to read the configuration from the /{token}/mqtt-config endpoint rather than assembling it yourself.
  3. Payload field names - they must match the parameters of the registered device type (device_type_key). Unknown fields are still stored, but no built-in widget shows them.
  4. The active Group - if you have several Groups, make sure you are looking at the one the device belongs to.

Can I import historical data?

Yes, through Settings → Telemetry → Import Data (Pro and above). Imported history deliberately does not raise alarms or notifications, so importing a year of readings will not flood your inbox.

Accounts & organisations

What is the difference between an Organisation and a Group?

An Organisation is your company, or tenant - the isolation boundary for data, and what the subscription and quotas attach to. A Group is a division inside it (per site, per department, per factory): devices, dashboards, rule chains and widgets each belong to one Group. A single account can be a member of several Organisations at once.

How do I invite a colleague?

From Manage Group, invite them by email and choose what they may reach (which pages, which solutions, which devices). They receive an invitation email; if they have no account yet, the invitation attaches itself once they sign up.

Subscription

What if I run out of device quota?

Two options: upgrade the plan (bigger quotas plus extra features) or buy an add-on (more device/user/solution quota without changing plan). Both live on the Subscription page.

Can I downgrade?

Yes, straight from the Subscription page, without contacting anyone. A downgrade is refused while your current usage exceeds the target plan's quota - reduce devices, users or solutions until it fits.

Which payment methods are supported?

Payments run through Doku (an Indonesian gateway) - bank transfer, virtual account, credit card and e-wallets. A PDF invoice is available for every transaction.
